Warrnambool College has a home campus of 1000 students and a small satellite re-engagement campus.
Students are drawn from both the city and the rural hinterland, including communities such as Port Fairy, Koroit, Woolsthorpe and Allansford.
The college has 6 Houses of approximately 150 students. These small communities include our tutorial groups, our pastoral care program and an extensive program of activities which includes sport, philanthropy, technology, the arts, environment and community support. There is a strong focus on leadership and individual accountability.
In years 7 and 8 our students have a core curriculum which every child undertakes. Modification of curriculum and extra opportunities are offered to students who are identified as requiring a higher level of support.
Year 9 focuses on developing personal social attributes as well as academic progression - The PhoenIX program combines English/SOSE/ Health and ICT. The Science teachers align their work with this program. Identity development is important at this stage of learning.
The senior program begins at Year 10 where many students undertake VET studies as well as Work Experience. There is a strong Commerce focus which includes a unit on career planning, as well, the elective program promotes individual specialization of students in terms of their abilities and interests.
Students who wish to keep options open for either a vocational or an academic pathway complete MiVCE where they complete VCE, VCAL and either an SBAT or a VET qualification. These students can leave school with a triple qualification meaning they are very well prepared for life after school.
